Devastating Floods Hit Northern Nepal, Rescue Efforts Underway

Nepal’s northern region has been struck by devastating floods after a glacial lake outburst near the border with China. The sudden surge of water washed away several villages, roads, and bridges, including the vital Friendship Bridge that connects Nepal and Tibet.

Rescue teams, including the Nepal Army and local authorities, are tirelessly working to search for the missing and provide relief to affected families. At least nine people have been confirmed dead while over a dozen remain unaccounted for. Authorities are also coordinating with China to facilitate the safe return of Nepali citizens and pilgrims stranded across the border.

The disaster highlights Nepal’s growing vulnerability to climate change, as melting glaciers increasingly pose risks to communities living downstream. The government has pledged to improve early warning systems and enhance disaster preparedness to prevent such tragedies in the future.
